Katie Smith, at Smitten Design Textiles, prints all her tea-towels by hand in her Auckland studio. Her ethos is slow design and small, limited edition production using water-based eco-friendly inks.
This design is hand-printed onto a beautiful European 100% oat linen. Katie chooses this linen for its natural tone, and its wonderful texture that matures, weathers and softens up beautifully over time. It's all part of the artisan experience that makes Katie's products so special. The timelessness and craftsmanship of Katie's designs appeal to all, making them an easy gift choice, or a stylish addition to your own home.
This design is based on the many leaves and textures Katie draws on her walks through the Waitakeres, in West Auckland. The original artwork is hand painted, and one of several versions over a morning session in the studio. Katie says there is something very meditative and relaxing in the fluidity of painting, just like her walks in the bush.
These tea towels make a ideal gift, particularly if you are looking for something hand made or uniquely New Zealand.

Why buy linen?
Linen is a natural fabric made from flax fibres. It is 30% stronger than cotton, highly absorbent, lint-free and extremely durable. The more it is used and washed, the softer it gets and the more beautifully it ages. Linen tea towels fast become favourites.
