Hand-printed 100% Linen Tea Towel - Spots, Pale Garnet

$28.90

Katie Smith, at Smitten Design Textiles, prints all her tea-towels by hand in her Auckland studio. Her ethos is slow design and small, limited edition production using water-based eco-friendly inks.

This light-hearted design is hand-printed onto a beautiful European 100% oat linen. Katie chooses this linen for its natural tone, and its wonderful texture that matures, weathers and softens up beautifully over time. It's all part of the artisan experience that makes Katie's products so special. The timelessness and craftsmanship of Katie's designs appeal to all, making them an easy gift choice, or a stylish addition to your own home.

Katie says "You can't be spots. Spot's make me happy; especially a little bit of texture and playfulness." And we love these spots too - cheerful, lively, and super-versatile - everyone's kitchen needs some of these!

Tea towel dimensions: 50cm x 70cm

Why buy linen? Linen is a natural fabric made from flax fibres. It is 30% stronger than cotton, highly absorbent, lint-free and extremely durable. The more it is used and washed, the softer it gets and the more beautifully it ages. Linen tea towels fast become favourites.

About the Artist:

Textile designer Katie Smith (Smitten Textile Designs) at work in her Auckland studio

Katie's textile crush started when she was young. As a teenager, she hoarded charity-shop fabrics, obsessively sniffing out textiles with superior weaves and designs. In her own practice, many years on, this remains at the core of her business ethos: quality over quantity; carefully curated colours that change and evolve subtly and run against the prevailing tide of mass consumption.

Katie is inspired by her stomping grounds, wherever she is. She is always getting distracted by the sheer beauty of things that some people overlook: from industrial forms, to the shapes made from natural clusters in nature. When people purchase her products they are getting a personal story and a connection to her as a maker.
